My Name

My name is Carmen. The name Carmen comes from the name Carmel. Though the name Carmen is Spanish, its origin is Hebrew. Carmen also means “song.” A few singers are named Carmen that are very talented. My parents did not think of any other names for me before I was born. I got my name from my father whose father was named Carmen.

Sibling Survey

I have three sisters, and I am the third child in birth order. Two of my sisters are still living with me. The benefits of having siblings is being able to have someone to hang out with because if I was an only child sometimes if your friends couldn’t come over you would still have someone. The chores that my siblings and I are expected to do are not too hard. The chore that we are supposed to do almost every day is to just keep our rooms straightened up. If my mom is not home she expects us to keep the house clean including the kitchen. The smaller chores are to empty the dishwasher, take out the trash, and feed and water the animals. We all have the same chores just separate rooms. I am not expected to take care of my siblings because we are all close in age so we usually take care of ourselves.
The siblings that get along easiest vary when our older sister is home. Usually my younger sister and I get along because we both ride horses about four days a week after school and we are constantly together so we can tolerate each other because we share a hobby. The two oldest usually get along when they are together. The ideal number between siblings to me is about two or three years because you have time to have one grow up and learn the ropes before you have another to have the younger one learn from their experiences. My parents treat all of my siblings equally. I have learned that siblings are a good example for future references so you can learn from their mistakes.
If I decide to marry have children I would like to have two children, two to three years apart. The only advantages of being an only child would be to get a lot of presents on your birthday and Christmas. I have a friend who is an only child and he always gets what he wants. The disadvantages of being an only child are not having someone to play with through your younger years. A TV show that reminds me of a sibling that I would like to have is What I like about You. The sisters in it are sort of close in age and they always get along. The two are always nice and forgiving. I would love to have those qualities in a sibling and have a great relationship with them.

Is there a plan?

I believe that there is a plan that God created for us. When someone dies you know that God planned that for them because he is going to take care of them in heaven. He knows what you are going to do for the rest of your life but you do not. If you trust in what he is doing he will care for you and you will have a happier life in heaven.

Mistake Story

In the book Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns Will made a mistake that is dangerous and impulsive. Will walked across a train trestle. Will made it halfway across when a train starts to come down the track. Will still found a way to make it out of getting injured but he still could have died. The author makes this part in the book very vivid because she is describing everything that is happening about Will and the train.
A time when I was making a dangerous mistake was when I was around six years old. I was with my little sister in the car when my mom was talking to her friend outside and I decided to go to the front seat and put the car in drive. She had told me beforehand to not go in the front seat, but of course a six year old is not going to listen. The car was also on a hill at the time. My mom and her friend started running to the car and my mom’s friend jumped in the side and put the car in park. That was a stupid and impulsive mistake and I never touched the handle to pull it into drive until around last year.
Will Tweedy and I have somewhat similar mistakes. I made mine happen, but he and I still did not know what was coming. When I was going down the hill I was having fun because I did not know at the time that it was too dangerous, but Will knew what he was getting himself into.

Who am I Similar To?

In the Book Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, Will is similar to his Grandpa. He was told by his granny that he walked like him, twitched his shoulders liked him, and looked like him. His granny told him he was a spitting image of Grandpa Blakeslee. The only difference was that Will had brown eyes and Grandpa Blakeslee had blue.
In my family I am similar to my mother. Many people say that I look like her. We both have different colored eyes, hers are blue, mine are green.

My Reaction

My reaction to “Cold Sassy Tree” is that it is an okay book so far. The writer brings me into the book by the way that people act in it. I like how the writer uses the accents that make you feel as if you were in the book. The characters are very interesting and it’s fun to see how they act toward people in their community. The young boy Will really informs you about Cold Sassy and what they think is wrong or right.
